Skimp on money not style for Christmas

Saving money is a necessity this Christmas season for so many of us.  Skimping on style and saving money do not have to go hand in hand.  One creative approach to pinching the pennies is to look for festive ways to wrap those thoughtful Christmas presents.  I made a frantic call to Randal today "do you still have those feed bags or have you burned them all already?"  He replied "I still have a couple from when I fed the cows today."    Sigh of relief!  Here are a few fun ideas for wrapping your gifts...

  1. Feed bags ~ paper or plastic
  2. Newspaper
  3. Reusable shopping bags ~ fairly inexpensive and *reusable
  4. Tissue paper ~ not toilet paper, but tissue paper
  5. Cloth or material ~ sheet, clothing, blanket, use that imagination
  6. Wallpaper
  7. Scarf ~ which is a gift in itself
  8. Hand towel ~ perfect for the small kitchen gift like a cookbook
Add pizzazz to your wrapping creation with one of these:
  • Twine
  • Ribbon
  • Pine cones
  • Branches
  • Berries
  • Yarn
  • Jingle bells
  • Earring ~ just thought of that one, maybe the Christmas ones you never wear can be rigged

Now get to using that beautiful mind of yours and create wrapped presents people will WOW over!

  1. What a great idea! Back when paper grocery sacks were still 'environmentally correct,' I used them for Christmas Paper. I cut the bags open, had the kids decorate them with paint and fingerprints, or paint with cookie cutters, and then sprinkled glitter over the wet paint. After I wrapped the gifts, I used raffia to make the bows! That was a good year. Since then . . . they're lucky if they're wrapped at all! LOL!

  2. Robin the raffia is a great idea...perfect for a southern feel! The kids would LOVE decorating the bags that way. They love doing craft projects. I totally understand about the presents maybe not getting wrapped. It may have something to do with the fact we have a ton of kids! HA! Good thing for Santa that his presents don't come wrapped at our house usually ;)
